back in school at starbucks and now taking a break while waiting for do and zai to come back with lunch YAY HAHA. So suay lah we wanted mac's in school on Saturday, and then mac's is closed on holidays till 10am and they don't serve breakfast menu NOOO. And today we wanted subway and then zai went to help us buy but it was 3.07pm and subway closes at 3pm during holidays NOOOO. WHAT LUCK SERIOUSLY.
Shall update on baking session with han on friday. Went to school to check receipt books and cash box with doreen (after camping outside the room for 20+ mins because we didn't have the password into the room LOL). And then went back to have lunch with han and bought ingredients because we wanted to bake cookies.
Reached home and dozed off on bed while waiting for the girl coz she was in the toilet for so long HAHAHA. She even took a snap of me sleeping tsktsk. And then woke me up and realised I slept for 27 mins??!! We then slacked for quite a bit before dragging ourselves up to start baking.
Our aim for the day was to bake chewy double chocolate cookies. LH found the recipe online, and there were many people who said it's the best recipe they've tried.
One problem we had when melting the chocolate was that our melted chocolates weren't liquid. They were chunky like some sort of spread. The instructions told us not to melt till the chocolates "seized" and we were like WHAT ON EARTH IS SEIZED, and were speculating if that texture meant that the chocolates had "seized". Anyway, we spammed hot water and mixed the melted chocolates till they were more of a liquid form.
After mixing our dry and wet ingredients. I think we were supposed to use a mixer but I was too lazy to get it out and too lazy to wash, so hand mix it is. ARMS WERE SORE. I guess you can say it's "ARMS DAY".
We had to bake many batches because each tray could only allow around 6 cookies to bake. So it took us several hours. What a chore!!
Our end product!! Ok they look like freaking ugly pebbles. The pictures don't do them justice. It's much better-looking in real life, and the taste was good!!
Initially we were quite disappointed, because the cookies weren't as chewy as we had wanted - my mum even thought they were underbaked. I guess it's because we did not let them cool enough. Because after the next day, the cookies definitely hardened and cooled and they were fragrant and chewy.
Was it the best double chocolate cookie I've ever eaten?? NO. But it could have been that we were amateurs so we weren't able to get some instructions right. And it was so difficult to grasp the correct temperature to bake the cookies at, because each oven works differently. Also, the recipe was quite hard to follow because we had to convert ounces, litres, cups, grams etc, since our ingredients were of different measurements. The cost of all our ingredients were up to $36++. Were they worth the money?? Not to me. Betty Crocker's instant cookie mix is definitely much cheaper and easier, but not as nice I guess. But it's definitely satisfying to bake your own stuff from scratch.
Then my mum cooked noodles for us and even prepared cold drinks for us. Asked mama if I could send LH home, then she said yeah because it was really late (11+pm) and it wasn't nice to let her go home alone herself so late!! But of course they didn't allow me to drive alone and they were in the car. So, LH became the first friend I've ever driven in my car!! I think she was quite worried and scared because I didn't know the directions to her house HAHAHA and it was quite late at night. It was pretty exciting for me though HAHA.
