loss averse.

We often tell ourselves not to care too much, but we always end up still making the same mistakes, and then we start hating ourselves for these unnecessary emotions invested into people who don't deserve them. As much as we try to convince ourselves to stop, we can't. Perhaps we still cling on to the hope that eventually, our actions will be reciprocated. At that point, the benefit from waiting and receiving seems to be larger than the loss from giving up, even though we all know that the possibility of the former is miniscule.
