I can't believe I did this. Finally made up my mind for braces, so I went for extraction yesterday. I've been having doubts for the whole week if it's necessary for me to have braces, but everything I look into the mirror and see that little bit of imperfection, I get very annoyed. It's like once you see it, you can't unsee it forever. My parents kept trying to dissuade me because they find it a waste to extract 4 perfectly strong teeth but I'm like IF I'M NOT GOING TO DO IT NOW WHEN I AM MORE DETERMINED, I WILL NEVER DO IT WHEN I AM OLDER. So, I went ahead with it.
This is the imperfection. It's actually the main reason why I wanted braces. I didn't have this problem last time, but the tooth started shifting by itself when I was around 15, and it got worse, and shifted to this state now. It made it a little more difficult to chew off stuff if I was to put food in between the front teeth.
It may seem unnoticeable but if you stare a little longer, you can notice how it slightly overlaps the tooth beside it, and how it is comparably shorter than the other big tooth. I HATED IT SO MUCH.
This inner tooth was the problem too. The reason for its growth is because the adult tooth grew before the milk tooth dropped, and due to the lack of space, it was pushed inwards. It is extremely difficult to brush it, and may create complications in the long run (like decay etc) because it's too difficult to brush.
Ok so I went for my extraction yesterday full of nerves. The nurse took a look at my teeth and she was like "OK WHAT DON'T NEED TO DO BRACES ONE MAH." That wasn't something very comforting to hear for someone who has made up her mind after much consideration. I was damn scared I would regret it halfway during braces, but once you extract the teeth, it's seriously POINT OF NO RETURN. So the dentist came and brief me about the procedures and stuff and he was like "most people only want to see me to extract once because I'm not very handsome" LOL because my mum asked him if it's ok to extract my wisdom tooth at the same time.
I had to have a lot of injections through my gums. Honestly speaking, the injections was quite painful HAHA. I mean, it's bearable, but it's really quite piercing lah. The extraction itself wasn't painful but you could feel the pressure/force and it's more of psychological, like whether you can take the pressure. Before the extraction, the dentist took a look at my teeth structure and he's like, "Ok honestly, it's going to be very difficult to extract your teeth because your bones are very strong and hard. I may conduct a surgery if necessary." WOW I WANTED TO STOP ALL THINGS AND GO HOME LOL. He said maybe I drank too much milk and have too much calcium le.
Anyway, I had to have a second round of injections because I could still feel some pain LOL around 10 injections in total omg. And remember the bottom tooth that grew inwards, IT WAS A DAMN PROBLEMATIC TOOTH. Ok if you look at the picture, you can see it's pretty short compared to other premolars because it's too inside the gums, so I guess it's pretty hard for the pliers to grip on to it. The doctor was like telling the nurse, "This tooth very weird position." I KNOW RIGHT. And basically all the 4 teeth were too strong and refused to budge. He really used a lot of force coz I could feel the pressure and the nurse had to support my head and chin while the dentist try to pluck them out. The problematic tooth was the worst!! Had to have extra jabs for that tooth, and the dentist was saying his hand was cramped because that tooth wouldn't cooperate HAHAHA WTH. He even changed pliers (??) of different shapes and sizes to try to pluck it out. I was damn scared the tooth couldn't come out and have to have surgery. But luckily all went fine eventually.
Also, he told me that I have this thing called "dry socket" (I checked online and it says only 2%-5% of people would have this and I have it wth my life sucks seriously), which means the "blood clot can become dislodged or dissolve a couple of days after the extraction. That leaves the bone and nerve exposed to air, food, fluid, and anything else that enters the mouth. This can lead to infection and severe pain that can last for 5 or 6 days." (quoted from http://www.webmd.com/oral-health/guide/dry-socket-symptoms-and-treatment#1). So it normally develops 2 to 3 days after extraction, and if necessary, I'll have to go back to have treatment (an injection I think).
Right now, I am in severe pain LOL. My gums feel so freaking sore and I think I'm going to pop a painkiller after I finish this post and head to bed. Also, I've been on a diet of only porridge WTH. I started eating meat today, but I have to chew very very slowly. Also, I have to avoid hot food, so most of the stuff I consume is either cold or in room temperature eeeeks. My eating time has also doubled (doreen says it'll triple after I officially put on braces OMG tian ar). Also, I have problem pronouncing same words seriously. I think I'm starting to speak with a lisp my gosh HOW. Kind of questioning myself if I did the right thing omg is all these worth it??!! I asked my friends and they were saying IT'S WORTH IT, but right now, I seriously don't know. Only can hope that the end result is worth it!! I'm really sad over how 4 precious teeth are being taken out. I'll probably regret it when I am 60+ years old and all the other teeth are failing me, and I'll be like DAMN IF NOT FOR BRACES, I WOULD STILL HAVE 4 MORE TEETH. LOL.
Here's a picture of my last smile the day before extraction :(
