It's 14th December now, which means it's Day 7 of my braces journey!! (put it on 8th December 2016). Confession: I did something pretty embarrassing HAHA. Right after I came home after putting braces, I recorded a video of me ranting for 18 mins about how horrible it was HAHAHA but it's for my own record purpose HAHA so I'll only pok back at the video after I remove my braces.
My final meal before braces was just milo HAHA. Woke up late and couldn't eat breakfast, plus I had no appetite coz of nerves.
I had to put on this mouth guard, like this piece of plastic that will force your mouth open so the dentist can do his stuff. And it was pretty uncomfortable coz I keep feeling like I'm drooling even though they have the suction tube to suck up the saliva. He'll then pry my mouth open to clean them and attach the glue on my teeth for the braces. He kept pulling at my lips because had to attach the metal brackets to the molars, and it freaking hurts because I felt my lips tearing and drying up. Doreen forewarned me and told me to apply lip balm. I did apply (I apply on daily basis if you don't know because I have really dry and parched lips) but it still dried throughout the process because of the lack of moisture.
THE FREAKING GLUE TASTES HORRIBLE!! It's like damn sour oh my goodness, and there was a moment my tongue touched it and I wanted to sit up and scream, "OMG OMG GLUE TOUCHED MY TONGUE WILL MY TONGUE STICK TO MY GUMS." #bimbomoment.
Then after that, he started coiling the wire around the bracket (?? I'm not really sure what he was doing but it felt like he was coiling around each bracket), then started snipping off the excess wire. AND TA-DAAAAA. Oh yeah when I sat up after he was done, I felt the weight on my mouth HAHA. Like a bit heavy like that, but I think it's my imagination because Doreen said there wasn't weight.
This was taken right after I exited the room, around 1 minute after putting on my braces HAHA. Look at how awkward I look!! I can't really close my mouth together (like upper teeth touching lower teeth) because there's this thing at the bottom of my top below, so I can't clench them together properly, so there is this huge gap between my upper and lower jaw. (I'm so scared that flies will fly in when I'm asleep since I can't close my mouth properly. Also, I have higher risk of drooling now in sleep because my lips can't close!!)
Also, it's pretty evident if one looks at the photo above, how I have a slanted alignment. Look at the gap. My teeth is slanting downwards. I've had this problem for quite a while, like when I observe my smile in pictures, my jaw seems slanted and my bottom row of teeth like does downwards (I don't know how to explain), but it seems more obvious with braces.
Photo evidence:
Look at how my bottom row slants downwards. Bad jaw alignment I guess?? Or maybe bad teeth alignment which causes this.
This was taken a while after. Less awkward but still awkward. I can no longer smile the "no-teeth smile". Aiyah but anyway I always smile very widely. I remember telling Doreen that I'll still smile damn widely with braces HAHA. Initially I was damn self-conscious, and like cover my mouth and try to smile toothlessly when talking to others, but after a few days I gave up, so now I'm back to my wide smile. No point hiding the fact that I'm having braces and just emBRACE the moment lah hor (HAHAHA overused pun here but I still love).
I was expecting a lot of pain right after I put them on, but it was still ok. My cousin was telling me how there would be a sore, and I texted telling her OK LEH NO SORE WHAT. BOY I WAS SO WRONG. It started to get more and more painful throughout the day, and it totally hurt like shit by night. I just totally stopped talking at night. The pain was still day there on day 2 and 3, but I'm fine now!!
I'm having a lot of trouble eating though. I can't really eat solid food, because my teeth can't clench together, so I can't use my molars to bite off food. Also, it's my first instinct to use my front teeth to bite off food, but it is a TERRIBLE MISTAKE!! I tried doing it after I did my braces and went for lunch. Tried to bite off a piece of those Japanese fish pastry (like the kueh kind with red bean) that my mum gave me, and IT FREAKING HURTS. LIKE A SHARP PAIN SHOT THROUGH. Can you believe it??!! It's just dough!! My teeth definitely became a lot more sensitive after extraction and braces, and I hope it wouldn't be like this after a while or after I remove!! SUCH A LIABILITY ZZZ. Now, I'm mainly eating porridge, or soup with rice. I'm just swallowing them LOL hardly any chewing. Haven't really been eating meat either because it's difficult to break them into pieces. Ok lah initially I think I got slim down a bit from the past couple of weeks because I was pretty much on a liquid diet and couldn't eat lots of stuff + no appetite + suffered from 2 days of gastric and I only ate 3 chocolate cookies the entire period of gastric, but now, I've discovered my ability to swallow food without chewing LOL so I'm wolfing down rice and at times, small pieces of meat. GAINING BACK THE WEIGHT. I MISS MY FRIED CHICKEN SOBZ.
OH and the next couple of days after braces was still awkward, and my lips were legit swollen!! But now, it's all alright now yay. I think I'm still pretty lucky because I haven't gotten any ulcers yet. But initially can feel the metal brackets scratching the inner corners of my mouth (like abrasion), and it was quite pain!! But I used some of the wax that the dentist gave me to relief the pain. ^^
Think I'm getting more and more used to this #braceface. One week down. Approximately another 77 weeks to go?? HAHAHAH SHIT.
