It's the start of official BCP for my company today. It really came as a surprise. My company was slightly late in responding because you know how much Japanese value work ethics and productivity, and working from home = decrease in efficiency because of potential slacking etc. Plus, not everything can be done from home. My manager had also mentioned that the Japanese did not undergo the SARS thing so perhaps they are less afraid of the situation.
We had 3 weeks of BCP trial, where we split teams and worked from home for 2 consecutive days, and return to the office for the other 2. And with the very recent spike in the number of cases, my directors held an urgent meeting, and they had decided on officially activating our BCP till April. It really came as a surprise. Whilst it is good news for us employees, it also means, shit is getting real.
